Awards Dinner
2008 Applied Reliability Symposium
June 19, 2008 in Reno, Nevada USA

At this year's Applied Reliability Symposium in Reno, Nevada, the Awards Dinner on Thursday night gave attendees the chance to mingle with colleagues and cast their votes for the best presentations. We were pleased to present Reliability Leadership Awards and Excellent Presentations Awards, and to recognize two new Certified Reliability Professionals.

Reliability Leadership Awards

We presented the Reliability Leadership Award to two companies, Seagate Technology and Delphi Thermal, in order to recognize their efforts in the area of Design for Reliability. Both companies understood the need for knowledgeable engineers to drive the DFR process and implemented corporate-wide training programs to accomplish this goal.

In 2006, Seagate Technology partnered with ReliaSoft to develop a customized, in-depth DFR training curriculum, which has been rolled out globally to hundreds of Seagate engineers as part of an overall corporate Business Excellence strategy. The curriculum has been very well received within Seagate, recently winning the award for "Best Training Program or Strategy" at the 2007 Business Excellence Seminar in San Francisco.

Delphi Thermal has always been a leader in the advancement of reliability methods and has continually embraced the DFR process to ensure product reliability. Part of their overall effort includes the certification of a number of engineers in various reliability methods, which will ensure that the DFR process goes beyond ideas and becomes part of the "DNA" of the product development cycle.

We would like to thank both companies for setting examples of world-class DFR strategies for others to follow.

Congratulations to all of our 2008 ARS Excellent Presentation Award Winners!

The winners were selected by votes cast by attendees. The winners this year were:

Stefanie Hahn (Gold) from Cessna Aircraft Company for her presentation, Program Managing for Reliability During Development of Cessna Citation Mustang

Jerry Roslund (Silver) from GLR Consulting for his presentation, Using the Weibull Function to Validate Product Life

Harland MacKenzie (Bronze) from Dana Corporation for his presentation, The Pitfalls of Accelerated Life Testing

This Year's New Certified Reliability Professionals

Congratulations to the two candidates who achieved the CRP certification this year. To achieve this elite level of reliability certification, candidates must gain, apply and demonstrate unquestionable expertise in the field of Reliability Engineering. CRPs are distinguished reliability professionals, and this year there were two candidates who successfully achieved the certification, Dan Farley of Delphi Thermal and Greg Smith of Whirlpool. We were proud to present them with their certifications, and congratulate them for their achievement. To learn more about the CRP program, click here.
