Designed Experiments for Reliability Engineers

There are a variety of types of designed experiments, and associated with them comes a unique terminology. This presentation will focus on the particular methodology of a Taguchi designed experiment, and the steps to robust design.

The following topics will be discussed: 1) Choosing the appropriate factors to be used in the design. 2) Choosing an appropriate design (linear graphs, inner and outer arrays). 3) Setting up the matrix and run order. 4) Cautions on collecting the data and the need to retain the orthogonality of the design. 5) Analyzing the data. 6) Drawing conclusions. 7) Validating the optimum control factor settings.

Key Words: Factors, Treatments, ANOM, ANOVA, Orthogonal, S/N ratio, Quality function, Taguchi
